I believe in the "direct approach" method. People who have the value you need in a mentor, generally are only looking for those individuals that are hungry for what they have and will value what they offer. When a person approaches them and is able to articulate what they want, why they want it, and how they believe they (the mentor prospect) can help them, it gets their attention. My advice would be to first identify the person, study their style, give some solid thought on how you are going to approach them, and when you do it is important to have a clear, concise message to share with them about yourself, your intentions, and your goals.
