The Power of Perspective

The Power of Perspective Can Make or Break You!

How we choose to view our circumstances and our challenges in life determines both our direction and our outcome.  In other words, your destination tomorrow is determined by the way you think today.

Recently, I have found myself in the midst of conversations with various people who want to voice their complaints or concerns over matters that they are dissatisfied with in life. Some of these matters are trivial, some are more serious, and all of them very real to the people I am talking to.   It’s almost been uncanny the number of times, just this week, that I have talked with someone who is feeling challenged, feeling like a failure, thinking about giving up, or who has already given up and they just don’t know it yet.  In other words, their heart forgot to tell their mind that they “quit”!

This is a dangerous place to be, my friends.

As entrepreneurs, as business leaders, or as leaders in life, we will all face set backs and challenges. These can come through a bad business deal, a betrayal by a partner, a failed idea or product launch.  Some can be less serious but equally as challenging, such as the occasional technological glitch that on-line marketers are confronted with, or the rude , uncooperative team member.  In your journey to success, there are always going to be challenges and obstacles to overcome, but you can emerge on top by choosing to maintain a proper perspective of the situation.

The way you  choose to handle these things today, in the present, can have far reaching impact on your future outcomes.

I encourage you to keep your approach positive, resist the temptation to take on a negative perspective and keep your thoughts positive and aligned with your vision.   For success to manifest, you will need to posture your mindset for success, and produce happy, positive thoughts filled with peace and prosperity.  See yourself succeeding and solving the problem you are confronted with, rather than being afraid of failure.  When you do this, even in the midst of adversity, you will find solutions and you will achieve success.

I found an awesome video filled with examples of men and women who confronted their giants and overcame circumstances that would have defeated others.  Take a few minutes and watch it….then ask yourself if you have what it takes to ….

“Finish Strong”.

Remember – Success or failure is not determined by the number of challenges we face or whether we win or loose every game, rather by the way we choose to view and approach our challenges.

As the video says, “The Choice is Yours…”

What will you do with that choice?

Will you take the “lemons” of life and make lemonade with them or will you suck on them and make a sour face?  🙂

Me?  I’m going to have some lemonade now…

Leave me some comments and let me know your thoughts.

Maybe you have some techniques that you have used to keep your perspective right.  If so, please share them with the community.   Who knows, your technique may be the answer someone reading this is seeking…and you can be a part of helping them succeed.

All for YOUR Success!

  1. Krista,

When I first heard this making lemons into lemonade I thought it was funny and kinda stupid, but this certainly did come at the right time for me!

I have to realize to that our circumstances are no excuse but are the obstacle to the other side of our goals and so we have to think outside the box and create a chance in our pattern of thinking if needed to become the success we deserve.

  5. Rockin’!!! Way Awesome post, Krista! POWER-FULL!

You got it…It’s not the reaction to the event(s), but our attitude that determines how we respond to Life.

  8. Good message Krista, thanks. If you really want to put every circumstance, both good and bad, in true perspective there’s no better saying to contemplate than “This too shall pass”.

      Stew,

I’ve used that one many times, believe me. 🙂 I do try and find the good in every circumstance though, no matter how difficult it may be, there’s gotta be something good to come out of it. 🙂

  9. Hey Krista~

My post for this week is very similar and I had no idea you’d written this! I even considered using that video (I can watch that over and over….so inspiring!), but used a story instead.

So true that when faced with adversity we all have the same choice….give up or shake it off and step up!

Clearly great minds think alike! 😉

    • @Beth Allen,

      Hey Beth,

Yes! Great minds do think alike. I find that happens often with me too. I will either write about something or be planning to write about something and I run across it on another tribe members blog. I thnk maybe we are just all riding the same wave of excellence! 🙂

  10. Krista – I really appreciate your message. I have an ongoing dialog with both my sons about this. It started when I was coaching them in sports, and tried to get it in their heads that the “scoreboard” is in place for the fans and that their focus needs to be on 1) the way they approach whatever situation they face and 2) what they can do to continually improve their physical and mental skillsets. I always told them that if they could take anything from the athletic field and apply it to every aspect of their life (starting with the classroom).

The same logic holds for all of us at any point in our lives.

    Thanks again for this! Chip

      Chip,
That’s excellent that you are already working with your sons on this. It’s a lot easier to create new habits as a child than it is as an adult. I anticipate those young men will experience extreme success in their lives. 🙂

      Krista

  11. Krista I love that, “posture your mindset for success!” I always find something to “keep” on all of your writings… 🙂

    Awesome post Krista!

Was reminded of Jim Rohn as I read it…

“It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.”

The same wind blows on us all…some people only move forward when the wind is at our back. When you learn how to manifest consciously any wind can take you wherever you CHOOSE to go!

Looking forward to many glasses of lemonade as we sail the seas of life together!

    • @Jay VanNostrand, Hi Jay,
Right on! I love that Rohn quote. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, you have a great viewpoint on perspective.

  13. Thanks Krista for this great post.
It is so true how we respond to things in our life determine our future and how so many people do not realize how deep this can go within us. It is with clear vision and purpose along with well defined goals and an action plan that allow us to move through these things effectively.
Thanks again for sharing with us.
    Make it a great day!
    Off to make some lemonade!
    God Bless,
    -ed

    • @Edward, Hi Ed,
You are always so encouraging in your comments. Just as much as a positive perspective can keep a person on track to success, a negative perspective can de-rail and prevent or postpone success.

  14. Krista,
I love reading your post. Your positive attitude about life shines through. Keep it up!

  15. Krista,

Amazing video you shared with us, and it is so true.

Five years ago a neurologist told me I had MS. He prescribed a wheelchair and sent me on my way. I don’t use or own one today because my perspective is one of health, strength and power.

I am not surprised that you have been able to prove those doctors wrong! Your spunk, persistence, and determination could overcome any “diagnosis” You are an inspiration and example for us all. Thank you for sharing your story here. I’ve got some freshly squeezed ready to go, come on over! 🙂

  16. Hey Krista!

I love your posts, and the life lessons that you’re sharing with so many.

It’s true, way too many people are ready to just quit on their goals (and themselves) when the going gets rough. And in any worthwhile endeavor, the going will get tough sooner or later.

I think the ability to see challenges as learning and growing experiences, and to move forward is what separates the winners from the losers, those who achieve their dreams from those who choose to whine about how their dreams were crushed.

It’s also what will make those of us who forge on incredibly successful. It puts us in the top percent of marketers.

Thanks for all you offer, you’re an amazing person and the blogging community has been blessed with your arrival on the scene 🙂

You make a great point. Viewing challenges as learning opportunities is a wonderful way to keep the proper perspective. In your mention of forging on, you raise another component of success – determination.

I appreciate all you do; you are awesome my friend.

      Krista

  17. Great article. What comes to my mind is that we always have choices. If we choose to get dragged down by negative energy, we only feed that fire. Take a Deep Breath, Exhale the negative in a situation. And Take Control. Choose the Positive, and when you get “stuck” do like the bumper sticker says on come cars: Let go and let God. That always keeps me on track. Donna

    • @Donna Merrill, Hey Donna,
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I like what you said “choose the positive.” It is absolutely a choice. Our situations are only as bad as we allow them to be in our minds. Perspective changes everything.

  18. My daughter and I were just talking about this today. She is 15 and realized that she has the power to change her own world and co-create what her life will be about through desires and goals. Fabulous stuff Krista! One thing I love to say to my community is that leadership involves us but it isn’t about us, just like love. Thanks for being YOU Krista!
.-= Kellie Frazier´s last blog ..Leadership Lessons From a Dancing Guy Is Fabulous and So Simple! =-.

    • @Kellie Frazier, Very well put Kellie! I like what you mentioned you say to your community “Leadership involves us, but it isn’t about us, just like love.” That is a powerful truth…so powerful in fact I wanted to repeat it. 🙂

      Thank you Kellie!

  19. As a mom, I’m always catching my children’s words when I hear “can’t”, “try”. As a coach, I catch my students’ words when I hear those also as well as any complaints. Your words create your reality. A great book is “The Tongue, a Creative Force, by Charles Capp.

    Great read krista…

    • @debbie turner, Debbie, thanks for the book recommendation. I haven’t read that one yet, but it sounds like something I would want to check out. The power of our words…”Wow!”…truly one of the most powerful things in the universe.

thanks for such a great post Krista,
The choice is ours and we need to decide what we do.
we certainly need to dream and believe.
loved the video it makes you stop and think

    • @jean, Thanks Jean. Yes…Dream Big, Dream Large, Dream Extravagantly!! Dream, Dream, Dream!!! And then of course, take action to see the dream become reality.

  20. I think we’ve all had our downs in business, love and money. We’ve all seen the Midnight of the Soul. For myself, I get tough and handle it.

    When I can.

When I can, I totally surrender and put total Trust in god. That ALWAYS gets me to the next morning.

thanks for this post Krista, we all need it… all the time. My good buddy Winston Churchill (well, I didn’t really KNOW him) said it best: “Never Give In”… He repeated this phrase something like 8 consecutive times in his most arousing speech following the Britzkreig. It was really all there was to say!
.-= David Merrill´s last blog ..PPC Mastery For Online Entrepreneurs =-.

    • @David Merrill, Hey David. I like that quote by Winston Churchill! I am with you on placing trust in God. He is my Source of strength when things get tough and He gives me the “heart” to see it through and “Never Give In…”
