Recycled Dreams

How to Handle Lost Dreams that Resurface in Your Life.

Have you ever had a dream escape you?

You know, one of those deep desires of your heart that you sought after, and believed for and worked hard for…maybe even you prayed fervently for it – but one disappointment led to another…and another…and another…until one day – you surrendered that dream.

You didn’t necessarily give up on it or quit…you just accepted that maybe it wasn’t meant to be, and although disappointed, and heartbroken you moved on with your life and started creating and realizing new dreams for yourself.

I have.

I have lived through the heartache and disappointment of broken dreams, released dreams, and forgotten dreams. I’ve also lived in the excitement and satisfaction that comes with embracing new dreams – realizing them and living them. This seems to make the loss of the broken (or escaped) dreams more bearable.

Recently, I’ve been confronted again with one of my lost dreams – a dream that, well frankly, when lost caused me a great deal of heart break and many tears. I had completely released it and moved on, quite successfully, with my life. It was, honestly, at the time, one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make – to release that dream and walk away from it.

Events over the past few months have led to new developments that I never expected to occur, and I now find myself face to face with that dream again. I can’t begin to explain or place into words the variety of emotions that have filtered through my heart and spirit over the last few weeks. I can tell you they have ranged from sheer elation, to extreme gratitude, and then to raw fear.

The vast majority of the time, I am a person who chooses not to live in fear, but trust my destiny and the course of my life to God. So elation and gratitude, I am accustomed to – fear is a little more challenging for me to deal with. So, I really had to dig deep in my psyche during moments of meditation to discover why I was feeling this particular emotion.

Finally, after much thought and an “ah-ha moment” today, it occurred to me – I have been feeling fear because I have been afraid of the dream itself. Not because it’s a bad thing, but because of the disappointment it caused me in the past.

The fear is that if I embrace this dream again, I risk disappointment. And it’s not so much that I “can’t” go through that again, it’s that I don’t want to go through that again.

This realization left me standing, in the middle of my office, staring into space as I understood the magnitude of the choice I have to make. Do I embrace this dream once again with the hope of a different outcome this time, or do I play it safe and continue on with my successful life and new dreams?

What did I decide? Well, in a moment of complete transparency and authenticity, I created this video to share with you, my faithful readers, the answer to that question, along with my decision process.

Disclaimer: Be forewarned, this is my most personally revealing video to date, so watch below to find out what happened with this “recycled dream”.

There you go, my friends. That’s what I have decided to do. I have no idea how this is going to work out….but I will trust and believe for the desired outcome.

Have you had recycled dreams?

How did you handle them?

What would you do if you encountered a lost dream again in your life?

Leave me some comments below and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks Krista you have written many messages to encourage and revitalize me to pursue and realize my goals and many times i do not believe as i have been meeting many unserious people.
But when i read what other people’s comment and i have started on the journey of believing and liking to learn how to realize my dreams.
    Blessings

  1. Thanks Krista for being real with us all. I will keep this video in my collection of ‘reminder’ videos to watch often to remind me not to quit. In the past, at times, I have lost sight of my dream many times, at times the desire hasn’t always been there because I wasn’t connecting enough to my dream, I let too many other things get in the way, including my fears and small thinking. But I agree, they never go away, dreams must be pursued if they are real dreams, and yours is a real dream. I am praying for you. If there’s anything I can do to help, I am here for you! x
    Evy G

  2. Hi Krista,
I appreciate the way you are real, without all the “bling bling”.

    Your believe is shining through.

Yes, the “what ifs” could be annoying.

    You go Girl

Thanks for your honesty and sharing.

    Love and Light

  3. Krista, I admire you tremendously and your inspiration. It’s hard to be transparent and let yourself be vulnerable in this internet world and with what we do. But you do such a great job at allowing us to really see through who Krista Abbott is and we should all strive for that. I love you my friend and feel so inspired by you! Yes, go for your dreams!

  4. Lori,
That is fantastic to hear! I am a firm believer that dreams, real dreams, never really leave us. They sometimes lay dormant for a while, but they always cycle back into our lives at the right time. I think it’s God’s way of bringing gifts to us in the right season. I wish you all the best in the pursuit of your dreams!
    Krista

  5. Hey Krista! What a powerful video! Thanks so much for sharing it! I am also pursuing a Recycled Dream right now – after it was on hold for over 20 years. And I have also realized that all the things I have learned in the 20 year period are helping now to make that dream come true. Perhaps…the dream is coming back now to show you how far you have come, and maybe even to show you new steps you may still need to take to get closer to that dream. I am finding that to be true – every day I get one step closer. Here’s to our dreams!!!

    –Lori

  6. Krista,
This was an amazing post and video! I believe that unanswered dreams return to you because the time isn’t quite right or we the starts are not quite aligned.

I never want to live with “What If…”.

So glad to hear that you are pursuing your dream! Can’t wait to hear about it…we’ll all be here supporting you!

  8. Hi Krista,

  9. I have just begun to really follow your blog and today I see how very real you are. To be willing to do a video that opens up your true fears is the sign of a real leader. I feel blessed to have found your blog. Thanks for opening up your heart… I look forward to watching your journey as you reach for your dream.

    Keep your dream alive.

  10. I agree with Bill. If your original dream returns to you then I believe you owe it to yourself to go for it. Even if the dream doesn’t work out well, again, you can look yourself in the eye and be proud that you faced your fears, again, and moved forward toward your dream. Courage is also an important trait. Just go for it and have faith in yourself.

  11. Wow Krista this really impressed me.Your honesty is amazing.God has a way of making us see that we are pursing our plans(dreams) instead of his plans.
This post was meant for me to see today.I have had some issues too and this post has given me the strength to make the changes I need to do too.
    You will succeed!

Hey Krista! What a great topic. I know I’ve had my fare share of recycled dreams. The one thing that blows my mind…………is that when your pursuing your dreams, you have it all mapped out as to how you will get there……………..but god always has something much better in mind.

Sometimes i arrive at my destination with a specific goal in mind…….only to discover later on that i was just at that destination to collect more golden nuggets that would assist me later on in my journey.

It doesn’t mean that your dreams want manifest . God is just preparing you for the greater things to come……..which makes a lot of sense in the end.

Krista, i look forward to seeing your dreams come to past…….and F.Y.I. you look great in your video……..no worries 🙂

    Thanks,

    Antoine Grant

  13. Hey Krista

This is the first time I’ve watched one of your videos so I don’t know what you look like WITH the make up and mascara! Great to meet you.

Fantastic that you had the courage to be vulnerable and drop the masks we so often adopt, so kudos to you for that..

I have to say though that in my experience, sometimes we have to take into account one of the forgotten
7 Essential Laws which is the Law of ALLOWING…
we can’t always get what we want by setting goals, sticking at stuff determinedly and pushing against the flow….nor by using the power of our WILL/mind to get what we want.. .. rather we have to surrender and accept and then grace flows.

In my experience, once we’ve done all we can DO…. visualised, prayed, asked the Divine, God or whatever you prefer to call the Source of all things, then we have to LET GO, trust in the Universal force and allow whatever is going to happen to happen in its own way and good timing.

if I were to give you one piece of guidance, I would say…. relax and trust and if it does come back to you, it’s yours.. if not, then something better is on its way to you for sure.

Good luck on your quest, and this word is chosen deliberately because i feel you are questing for something elusive and it will be found within…

Blessings and love. Thanks for sharing so intimately

  14. Krista…you are obviously an incredibly beautiful person. It takes a person of great heart and courage to share with the world that you are going to risk again on something that you were hurt by before.

I believe the Lord gives us dreams, visions, prophetic words and so forth often enough…but we sometimes don’t understand the process or the timing of the things He is unveiling.

If the Lord has planted this in your heart once again…I think you are right in going for it. God is indeed trustworthy and you can trust what he is doing today.

It is a different day and a different time…I pray He brings all that your heart desires.

    Many Blessings…

  15. Hey Krista,

So glad that I stopped by. Such a powerful message and I have so much respect for you for being so open and honest.

Just remember that sometime our plans and God’s plans are not the same thing and as far as your pain, fear, etc…. God will only put us through what we are capable of handling…

If we don’t dream, what do we have? Keep on dreaming and Do Life!

    Cheers

  16. Krista,
Your transparency is refreshing, my friend. You are speaking from your heart and that comes through loud and clear. I believe that a recycled dream never really left, it just lay dormant for a while. You will reach that mountain top. I hear the determination in your voice and I know you have that “never give up” attitude.

  17. Hey Krista,

That’s for sharing this with us. For being so transparent, open and real with what is going on in your life. You give us the encouragement and inspiration to know that it can be done. We are not alone with our recycled dreams and the emotions and thoughts that go along with them. We can move together through them, by the grace of God to the destiny that he has made for us.

    Make it a great day!

  18. You are a superstar, Krista!

The coolest thing about dreams is, that in reality, they are possibility. But what’s possible is that this ‘recycled’ dream, you were not ready to pursue it at first. Today, you ARE the leader you need to be to fulfill this one!

    Awesome!

  19. Hey Krista,
You are an amazing woman. I watch your video and listen to your voice and am just so moved by your indomitable spirit. Sharing this most raw point with so many is not only courageous, but such a gift to everyone who knows you and follows your blog.
Seth Godin has a very important little book called “The Dip” in which he says that knowing when to abandon a course of action is one of the hardest thing for anyone to do, especially when we have so much invested into the course of action we have been on. When do we quit, when do we push through to the next level?
I love the concept of Recycled Dreams. What an amazing way to think about what we are doing with our lives. Trust in the process…
I know you will come through this trial stronger, more powerful, and more at peace than you have ever been before!

  20. Hi Krista!

I am so excited for you! It is completely impossible for my dream to ever be recycled, so I am thrilled that someone has been blessed with the opportunity to try again.

When I pray, I always ask, “Thy will be done.” I hope that at the end of the day I have lived God’s purpose for me.

We will all be cheering for you!

  21. Oh Krista, I feel you. I feel your pain…and your joy. I feel the fear….and the willingness to risk. When you are as clear as you are about the dream, it is all worth it…..no matter how it turns out. Contraction-Expansion.

You have an indomitable spirit, Krista. I commend you, respect you, and am fully rooting for you!

    Trust. Aaaaah….. 🙂 xoxo

    Krista,

I don’t believe we ever really abandon a dream if it returns. I believe that sometimes our timeline and that of God is simply two different timelines. recognizing this can be powerful. True success is having dreams and goals and working toward them. If we don’t work toward them than it may have been nothing but a wish.

I have dream that someday I will learn to fly a plane. I even started and have about 10 hours of airtime. But at the moment I have placed it on hold. If I return to it the timeline simply changed. If I never return to it, I believe it was just something on a wish list.

    Your friend,

  22. Krista – I truly think things happen for a reason – maybe it just wasn’t the right time for your dream before. Maybe all you have learned and all of the growth you have been through with everything else you do has been for the purpose of tackling that dream NOW like you said. Some of the best things in the world come from uncertainty and challenging ourselves. You go for it Girl!! I wish you all the happiness you deserve:)

You are so right with your dream and goal, never stop embracing your dream, maybe it will take 5+ years to have your dream come true but what if you never dreamed it?

My dream in life is to help people around the country developing leadership goals and personal development, pulling people out of the deepest of all corners. Help kids, parents, anyone that is willing to take a helping hand and listen. I know through having some faith everything will fall in place.

  30. My dear Angel Face (Yes…you shine like an angel honey)
I’ve been down that road, and I’ve worked with so many people with the same decision. First and foremost I can tell you this, and you may know it already, God always answers our prayers, sometimes immediately, sometimes we gotta wait, or sometimes not at all. When you pray or put something in the hands of God, put in this little insurance policy I do when I pray.
I ask for something and I also ask God to let me SEE it.
Our Lord works in strange ways. Sometimes we get stuck on stupid and don’t see it at all.

If I didn’t put that insurance policy in, I would have never given my husband David a chance because he was “different” than me. 20 years later, I know we are the same souls.

If you have a dream, sometimes there are variables in the walk through life. You may be so focused on this dream and miss out on the other opportunities God is given you because of your expectations. Maybe they are too low? Maybe you have grown so much that you don’t even realize your dream is on a higher ground? Think about that my friend.

I don’t want to write a novel here, but You know I can “see” through people. lol – When I look at you without your makeup and all the camera stuff, I see the same beautiful person that you are. Your soul precedes you. You are an honest loving gal that anyone would want to be with.
My bias is that you need to be more picky and choosey. That’s right…you have a right to. You are an amazing young woman and are growing in leaps and bounds.

For all you all out there that is reading this long winded comment remember this: NEVER make a decision based on fear and doubt. Fear and Doubt is what I can call the “devil” or you may call negative energy. When you give in to that it controls you and blocks you from your dreams.
